Hi Memphis neighbors,

Will be travelling through town in about 3 weeks on a Friday around 7a-7:30a and I was wondering what would be the best route to get from I-55/I-40 to I-22 in MS?

It looks like the best route in MS is I-55 to Church Rd to 305 to I-22.

But what about Memphis itself? Obviously taking I-55 direct is the shorter route compared to I-40 to I-69 then on I-55. Is there more traffic on one route at that time of the morning?

From St Louis take 55 south into Mississippi. The only traffic you may encounter is coming across the bridge

Enjoy your time passing through

Google maps takes traffic into consideration and will route you the quickest way. You never know where there will be a backup due to an accident.

You can also take I55 to I240 and get off at Lamar going south. Lamar turns into I-22

Thanks for the replies.

Made Memphis about 7:30a and traffic was very light, I was not expecting that. It was a Friday so maybe that contributed? I very much prefer travelling thru your town compared to Nashville.

The west side of the interstate system in Memphis has quite a bit less traffic especially for the route you most likely took. I-55 before the I-240 loop is mostly a pass through route. I've only been on that section of the interstate once in the last 3 years. Most of your heavy traffic is on the eastern side of town. A large amount of places of employment are located on the eastern half as well as residents. Also most of your traffic in the morning coming in Memphis not leaving out.

The overall interstate traffic is one of Memphis' bright spots. You can get just about anywhere in the area in about 15-30 minutes as long as there aren't any accidents or other delays.

I think you are spot on here and it makes the route preferable to Nashville where you are forced to go thru the entire town. I definitely saw congestion while there, Northbound I-55 was crowded coming out of MS, just not in my direction. Perfect time to hit it.

Thanks guys.
