I started medications for the first time in my life 28th of last month. I am in the 3rd week and the results have been mixed. My sleep has improved but otherwise I can't say I am "normal". This is for depression by the way. The lethargy ensues. I feel like I should rather concentrate on my diet but doctor says we will slowly phase out the medications and start with councelling side by side(6 months give or take). Tomorrow he has asked me to go for a personality assessment test. This is costing me money so I thought I'd take some advice. I am always conflicting on decisions.

Is withdrawal from medications going to be an issue(its been a bit more than 3 weeks).

Seek medical advice from qualified medical professionals ONLY.

No one on a public forum can help you or answer your questions.

It can be very dangerous to stop some medications abruptly. Talk to your doctor before making any changes.

What the others have said PLUS three weeks is often not enough time to give a medication a fair trial. Don't be so quick to make changes.

I've taken Anti-Depressants for the better part of 13 years, and I wouldn't ask perfect strangers on line advice about stopping. Ask your doctor- your mental health is more important than finances.

You need to talk to your doctor, you can't just stop the medication. If you want to get better you need to give it time to work usually 4-6 weeks for an SSRI. If you feel like it's not helping you need to tell your Dr that so he can makes changes. Not every SSRI works the same for every person.

Please don't stop cold turkey.

3 weeks? Don't give up. Medications like these take a while to accumulate in your system. Up to 4 weeks for full effects would be not unheard of. Give them as long as your doctor recommends. Increasing the dose might be something that the doctor will recommend. Talk to your doctor before doing anything.

Remember, if you switch to another medication, you need to titrate (gradually ease off) the first prescription. That can take around 2 weeks of gradually lowering the dose. Then once that's out of your system, you start a new prescription... which takes another 2 to 4 weeks of waiting to see if that's working well. So, the results aren't instant, but when something works, it is well worth the wait to reach stability and sanity again, believe me.

If you think this is an ordeal, just think of someone with psychotic symptoms starting a new prescription...they have the same wait, 2 to 4 weeks, to see if the medication is even going to work for them.

Stay with it and be patient. Good luck.
