This is a time in my life when relatively good things are happening to me, but I still feel horrible everyday. I've had issues with dysthymia the last 15 years. I've tried every medicine they make and tried therapy. Nothing ever makes a difference. What alternative treatments are there?

Why do you think this is? Nobody knows you better than you do.

OP: I went 10 yrs with a bunch of A/D drugs and it was a sluggish thyroid all those years from 1991-2002 and a D.O. got me on Armour and in 4 days depression lifted. I was 64 when finally helped and I'm 80 now and no more drugs and no depression. This is my story and I also agree with the above posts.

Adrenals are another factor and good to do research on supporting adrenals.

I also like Inositol and Gaba and use them especially in my sleep combo. They are calmers.

Believe it or not, Ketamine and Psilocybin mushrooms/magic mushrooms are in trials now for resistant-treatment depression....not yet FDA approved...but the mushrooms have been fast tracked for approval by FDA.

I found some relief with the addition of low dose antipsychotic medications in combination with two antidepressants. You need a psychiatrist who is up on the latest treatment options...there are also new drugs available for treatment-resistant depression.

Perhaps you need a new psych MD....if you have had only therapists, make the switch to a psychiatrist.

Visit our depression thread:

We understand your situation and will support you.

Don't blame the person fighting depression...you have no clue about his situation.

And no, we don't always know why we have continuing depression....
that's why psychiatrists are necessary.

Who's blaming? Wow, you really jump to conclusions. I would like to hear what the OP has to say.

During my 10 yrs of trying to get rid of the depression I was seeing a psychiatrist so I could get A/D drugs thru Medicare, had to be this way, as I could not afford the drugs...she did nothing for my issues but "write"...

When I finally got on the thyroid support, went for my next appt and out of the depression and she looked at me and started writing down what I was telling her about what the thyroid med did for me....it's like she couldn't believe what I was telling her....never saw her again. Talk about having the right people in one's life at the right time. But for me it took 10 yrs...

OP, are you seeing a therapist or currently being treated by a psychiatrist? What are you doing to take care of yourself? When did you last get a full bloodwork panel? I got seriously derailed by a severe Vitamin D deficiency last year.

Also, what kind of support system do you currently have? Friends? Family?

Please do consult with a psychiatrist and talk therapist if you are not doing either of those things. Make time during your day for whatever brings you joy. Keep in touch with the people you care about. You have been under a terrible burden for 15 years, but please keep moving forward and looking for solutions. You never know what will be the fix. I have a close friend who was going through a horrific panic attack cycle for months. Doses of Ibuprofen gave him temporary relief until he could get it under control with some talk therapy. It was a totally unexpected.

Please do investigate the current studies and see if you can get included in them too - a psychiatrist at a teaching hospital might be your best bet..
