Just learned today that a beloved relative had called the Suicide and Crisis hotline. They had reached a reached a critical point with intention to self harm. They were placed in a queue and received a response one week later and offered an appointment to speak with a "counselor" in another 3 weeks. Fortunately, they received help from another source and avoided tragedy. I understand depression/crisis levels have increased nationwide. Yet,to hear about the response they received was disheartening. For all the riches of the US, the healthcare system is subpar, unless compared to a developing nation. Maybe the hotline needs a name change.
That sucks. I'm sorry this happened and I'm glad it worked out all right. I think we're going to need something besides hotlines in the future (now), the way things are going. ("Things" being everything - people, the world, everything.)
