There's not a whole lot out there on this but what I have found doesn't answer the question, can it cause memory loss? If so, long or short term, or both? Does anyone know?
It can do both really, depending on the severity. It certainly cause leakage/micro strokes in the brain even if controlled that might not be noticeable.

Ok, thank you. I know the prognosis but do you happen to know what the life expectancy of someone with this might be?
It depends again With good control and lower severity it shouldn't be too bad, but it can cause TIA's, and strokes. Here is a good resource for information, and has a good description (Small vessel disease and it's Prevention --- HealthandAge).
I wish I knew more about it, and I could say good things I hope for the best with it
I have small vessel desease and ive had it for 6 years and if anything my memory has got better so I suppose its how you live your life as I don't drink or smoke or eat a lot of red meat so I think that all helps.
my husband has just been diagnosed with svd having been in a car accident and suffered multiple strokes. they have said his life expectancy is five years.... how can they know this. he is 62 and had the stroke 18 months ago. Thank you for your time I would appreciate a reply.
