I have been reading for years that this is about to start. But every time, it seems, the idea is shelved before it starts.

Well, I think they call that a Carnival cruise

Would be cool though, however it take too long, might as well fly to Cancun. Always wanted to visit that place though. Mexico has always been a country I really wanted to visit.

I don't think Cancun is very representative of the "real" Mexico. I believe it was an underutilized stretch of beach, until the Mexican government's tourist agency decided it would be a great place for some glitzy tourist hotels. So, they built them.

I have heard it said that if your idea of a great vacation is drinking a whole lot of beer and puking on the sidewalk, it's the place to go.

ditto antgar. Cancun is a wonderful place to vacation. I hardly drink, and my husband does not drink at all, and we had a great time.

Playa del Carmen; 40 minutes south of Cancun without all of the annoying drunk spring breakers. Actually I'm surprised people still go to Cancun, I thought everyone who visits the Mexican Caribbean did PDC.

Maybe it's because Cancun is in the center of all, you can make fast trips to the Piramids, the shooping malls, restaurants and enterteinment are across the street, is more comfortable for people with kids like I than Playacar, that is wonderful too...

The secret is not going there in Spring Break.

Regards...

We went Christmas week! It was warm and sunny. We saw the pyramids, went snorkeling, it was really nice. Flying back home into Newark airport (in December) was brutal.
