My maternal grandfather was born in Mexico (Zacatecas).
I understand that my American born mother is eligible to apply for Mexican citizenship through Article 30 of the Mexican constitution (since her father is from Mexico).
Now, if my mother gets Mexican citizenship, would I (also American born) then be able to apply for Mexican citizenship through her?
I got citizenship last year and to my knowledge, unfortunately not. Your parent has to have been born there. A parent getting citizenship (through your grandparent) doesnt carry over. About 90% certain on this from how I remember when at the consulate.
If your mother acquires Mexican citizenship she transmits it to you. Has your mother completed this process? If so all that is required is for your birth to be registered in Mexico. Once that is done you become a Mexican citizen by birth!
