Hi everyone!! I am desperatly in need of good advice. I've lived in Fairfax, Va my whole life. It's very expensive to live here and what you get for 308K for example is a 30yr old townhouse w/a lot of plumbing expenses. I wanted a new house and moved with my family to Manassas. I'm Persian/American and don't mind the variety of cultures in a particular area....there are many spanish speaking people now in Manassas. However I'm ssooo scared to move in a crime city. I want to move mainly b/c it's so cold here and I have to keep my kids home for 6 months straight! It seems like cruelty. I couldn't do that to even pets!

Could someone suggest which areas are safe, good schools..and good for a family. I don't want to be where my children are bullied, murdered or I have to worry about hurricanes. My husband sells Mercedes here so I'd love a place where he can make a lot of $$$.???

Thank you and God Bless whover can give me their golden advice!

I doubt it's six months in Virginia, maybe in Faibanks Alaska

over here they will be inside About 8 months of the year because the heat and humidity will be unbearable. Even If you tried to be outside, it will be too unsafe because no one walks here. All you Will see are creepy men offering you and your kids a ride.

Like Pinc3ss said your children will be indoors for 6 months at a minimum here in South Florida. Its hot an humid many months out of the year, and when it is less hot outside in the evenings your kids will not be outside anyways either. Mosquitos feed at dusk and dawn and then we have noseums certain times of the year, so the times that are nicer to be outside aren't great time to be outside anyways. The pools help a lot with getting kids outdoors, but if your pool isn't heated or screened in you will not want to use it for 6 months out of the year anyways. My pool is either to hot or too cold (mine feels like a bathtub during the summer months so not refreshing or in the winter months it's to cold to get in, I have thought about making it a giant pond as I don't use it enough ) many months out of the year.

Here in Miami the threat of hurricanes is real, pretty much any place in Florida for that matter has a good chance of getting hit with a hurricane. Jacksonville I believe has the lowest hurricane strike record, so if you want a place in Florida with less chances of hurricanes try Jacksonville. Most places in this country have some sort of natural disaster risk fyi, at least with hurricanes you have a warning.

If your husband wants to stay with the Mercedes company then you would need to stay in the larger cities. Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Orlando and Tampa.

If you are concerned with staying indoors due to weather a lot then I agree the summers in Miami (or most of Florida) are not going to suit you. Perhaps a more temperate climate like around San Diego?
