Get an old fashioned map and keep it in the car with you. Research more than your hotel the next time you go some place, too. What if you were driving really late at night and the GPS told you to go down NW 65th Street? Would you do it because the GPS said so?

I can tell you I wouldn't go driving down that street late at night!

I wouldn't blame it as much on the area as people not doing their homework.

People actually follow GPS?? I thought that was simply a "just-in-case/I-wanna-look-cool" obsolete feature... the things I learn here...

its funny whenever we go up the turnpike it always tells us to get off at exit 12 and then get back on so we just ignore it and it 'recalculates'. weird.
actually more recently we're using the free mapquest gps app for our iphones. what i like about it is that when i'm in another city for business it works before it finds all the satellites because it can triangulate with the cell phone towers as well. so i'm not praying it figures out where i am before the split ahead makes me go north south east or west.

Using a map would NOT tell a visitor that NW 65th was in a bad area, either. I went on a cross country road trip with a friend. She used a gps unit and it was great! Of course, she programmed it in such a way to go the routes she wanted, but she never had to refer to a map - it took us to the restaurant, motel we wanted, etc. So much easier than having to refer to a map or to a piece of paper with directions on it. It talks to you.
