Of 436 Congressional districts in the U.S., the area in northern Miami-Dade County ranks 434th.

Interesting. I disagree with the Congresswoman's assessment that it's all due to racism. I believe that the district is significantly poorer than say the 18th or even 20th districts.

17 has Liberty City, Miami Gardens, Opa Locka, etc. in it. There's obviously, at this point in time, no way those areas can compared to other, more affluent areas.

Now, considering it's 434th out of the country, that's pretty bad. I'd be interested in seeing income there as opposed to other, better performing districts, and see what kind of differences there are.

No surprise considering how much health plays into it.

It's not surprising she would play the race card. But what is suprising to me at least, is how much happier the black population is in Miami vs. Dallas. I don't want to turn this into a race thread, just stating my impressions.

Even if the polls were perfect, they'd disagree due to the different definitions of "happy" depending on who made the poll. Also, the definition would be extremely biased as it'd define "happy" in the sense the poll-taker's country defines it. Happiness in a village in Pakistan is completely different from happiness in a suburb in Copenhagen.

Which explains why many of those people move down south for better living conditions and jobs.

Couple of things:
1) Not sure where the NBC write-up got the "unhappy" thing from as that doesn't appear anywhere in the document.
2) The rankings seem to be based on healthy lifestyle and access to healthy options which unfortunately is something that is lacking the black community at large.
