Hello!
We are coming to Miami for a visit with some family and looking for some fun things to do. We would love to check out some organic farms/farmers markets, go canoeing, eat some good local food and anything else that you might suggest! Please give your suggestions for things a couple of hippies might enjoy in your neck of the woods...or should I say palm trees?

Thanks!!

well its a little late for the everglades. the bug levels will be pretty high by this point but youll definitely want to do a drive through the keys. check out robert is here on the way to everglades national park in homestead. you cant miss it. you can also enter everglades national park and visit royal palm (like the first destination inside the park) and youll probably even see a few gators because theyre theyre pretty much year round. i wouldnt go much further into the park though because the mosquitos/deer flies/horse flies will be pretty active. definitely visit midway cafe in islamorada and bahia honda if you go down to the keys. you can rent kayaks at robbies marina by islamorada. and paddle to indian key and lignumvitae key right there. youd probably enjoy a visit to fairchild gardens in coral gables which looks like paradise. if you drive down krome avenue there are alot of orchid shops and fruitstands. we're getting into the mango and lychee season so you may start to see some of that.

Don't knock out the Everglades just yet. We had to go last year in late June/early July with out of towners. I was really worried about bugs because I'm a big chicken when it comes to them but it really wasn't a problem. We went midday. It was hot while we waited to get on an airboat but super nice once on it. No mosquitoes or any other bugs bothered us. Maybe because it was midday.

yes the airboat you should be able to do (check anywhere along tamiami trail on the way to big cypress) unless there are thunderstorms and then youll just have to wait for them to rain out/clear up but i dont think of just an airboat ride when i think of the everglades.
its not the right time of year to bike shark valley, do a swamp walk, canoe turner river, etc. even if you go midday, with the activities i meantioned you're liable to be attacked by deerflies and horseflies which is why they're winter activities.
