Lately I've been wanting to be participant of everything related to youth culture, but don't know that many people who I can talk to about these things.

So here I go:

- What are the young people into now? Is there any urban culture that has emerged during these past years in Miami? What's the fashion in today' youth?
Any new urban tribe that I haven't heard about? (I graduated from high school when emos were at their height)
Any info regarding youth culture in MIAMI is welcomed

I'm feeling old and want to enjoy whatever I have left of my youth days...

Whoa! Coming from you, I thought this was a rhetorical question! You're still in your 20's right?

It's really no different than adults. They find like-minded people and do things they love. My much younger cousins are all different and hang out with their crowds. Some are totally into clubbing and the beach and that's what their free time doing. And shopping.

I have another cousin who is into rock and so are his friends. Then there's a couple that are into hip-hop. It really does depend on what you like to do. People forget that a certain type of group is never the in thing for every other person and there are a lot of large groups who like other things. As I said before, quite a few of my cousins are into clubbing and, now that they are on vacation, they go at it A LOT and you will see the clubs they frequent packed with 19-21 year-olds. Mind you I'm talking about nicer clubs not a hole-in-the-wall where people don't even dress nice to go there and it's basically a dump lol

Then during the day they spend a lot of time in big groups at the beach. Those two things are very high on the Miami youth today but hey, it's always been like that. I remember that's what we did back in my days too. Partying and the beach is what Miami is known for. If you want to get an idea there are a lot of nightlife websites dedicated to Miami's youth.

2night.com Miami is one were my cousin and her friends are constantly showing up in their pics lol

I'm also your age and feel older by the month. Even so, why do you want to have anything to do with all the crap the youth like these days?

I notice that guys plucking their eyebrows seems to be a thing among even straight guys. I guess manscaping has always been around, I just never saw so many teenagers doing it before. When I was in High School in the 90s, I remeber guys started shaving their legs (at least at Coral Park and Southwest Senior Highs) lol.

Back in my time a lot of guys did that too. Like I said, it depends on what you like. There will always be emo, rockers, punk, jocks, etc. It doesn't have anything to do with the times. It's just finding the type of people who share your interests.

I see a lot of young people with the Gothic look and others with their pants pulled down exposing their underwear, I can only imagine what my father would have said and done presenting myself like that back in my days.

I probably would have found out what a wedgie felt like.
