My husband is considering a job opportunity on Key Biscayne. We are only vaguely familiar with Miami. We would move this summer with our 4 yr. old. We would rent as we have a home to sell here in Georgia. Where should we look? We would love to find a place with a max rent of $1800, but could go to $2000. Our priorities are finding a good area without him having a crazy, long commute to work. We would not mind living in an apartment or condo if a single-family home isn't a possibility. With your suggestions, could you please note commute times to Key Biscayne since we are not familiar with the area?

Our daughter will be entering preK in the fall...I would also need advice on schools (probably private).

Thanks so much in advance!!

Basically your going to have a commute and deal with traffic if you are working on Key Biscayne, as traffic to downtown is rough from all directions. So unless you can live on Key Biscayne there is no getting around traffic. Brickell is a nice area, it would be a short commute, you could live there for a year to get to know South Florida. As I'm not sure how it would be a good place to raise a child.

South Miami is a nice area, you should be able to find an apartment in your price range. The commute wouldn't be to much. There is a nice pre K that my friends have sent their children to Riviera Pre K and all have said good things. I don't know the costs though... Coconut Grove would be another suggestion with a short commute.

Thank you for your suggestions. What about Coral Gables? Additionally, does anyone have any realtor recommendations for rentals?
