Well in Miami Lakes there are small condo buildings right off Main Street. No grocery store but places to eat and some shops and a movie theater.

You say Miami Lakes and Kendall but those are way out in suburbia. That is the last place.

The City of Surfside.
Downtown Miami and Brickell
Parts of Coconut Grove
Large areas of Miami Beach
Mircle Mile/Coral Way area of Miami and Coral Gables
Downtown district of South Miami
Midtown Miami

Isn't there a Publix on Miami Lakes Drive and 67th? Right by Main Street.

I would say the condos/apartments on Kendall Dr./US 1 by the Dadeland mall. You have a Publix right there, the mall and other stores and restaurants in the area and if you need to go further away the monorail station and buses right there.

We can add the following to your list:

Little Havana
Allapattah
North Miami

We need a master list! Despite the perception that there are no walkable neighborhoods in Miami, "Walkscore.com" rates the Miami area at #8 nationwide!

Most Walkable Cities in the United States and Canada on Walk Score

In the northeast part of Miami, add Aventura along Biscayne and West Country Club, also Biscayne from Sans Souci to 135th is doable and relatively affordable. Sunny Isles Beach too.

There are many areas where things are in walking distance, but to see if it's really a safe and comfortable to walk, what you really want to do is actually spend an afternoon walking between the actual place you'd be living in and actual destinations you have in mind. Small things matter, like are there adequate crosswalks, and do the crosswalk signals take forever, and do they give you enough time to cross, and do they direct traffic to turn left at the same time you're supposed to cross. Keep in mind many complexes have gates and your actual apartment may be set back far from the pedestrian exit (if there is an actual pedestrian exit...). Also, if you want to use the public transportation, check actual schedules and use Google maps to map out hypothethical trips that you would take, don't just rely on "there is a bus line or train station." In summary, you really have to do your footwork.
