This new study was done by an independent association of criminologists. It is rankling many feathers because they used FBI data and not the data reported by the cities themselves. Orlando was the highest FL city at # 11.

Miami Gardens, incorporated as its own city in 2003, ranked 14th.

Top Ten Most Dangerous Cities:
1 Detroit, MI
2 St. Louis, MO
3 Flint, MI
4 Oakland, CA
5 Camden, NJ
6 Birmingham, AL
7 North Charleston, SC
8 Memphis, TN
9 Richmond, CA
10 Cleveland, OH
11. Orlando, FL.

Source: CQ Press

However, when ranking counties as a whole, Miami-Dade did come in at # 10. Same source:

Miami-Dade County as a whole ranked 10th most dangerous of the 334 major metropolitan areas in the U.S. The only metro areas with worse ''danger'' ratings: Detroit; Memphis; Las Vegas; Flint, Mich.; Pine Bluff, Ark.; Saginaw, Mich.; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Shreveport, La., and Little Rock, Ark.

Broward County ranked 129th among the major metro areas.

Are you serious, that low? I believe it but out of how many? It seems about average for it's size judging from what I have seen elsewhere. Not really any better but not any worse.

That was surprising to me also. It is out of 334 major metro areas.

West Palm Beach ranked eighth most-dangerous among the 129 cities with populations between 75,000 and 100,000. Also, it's the 57th most dangerous metro area, which is an improvement. However, it's sad to see how much safer Broward is... I remember when Broward was considered much more dangerous as a whole.

Interesting to see how far downhill Orlando is going though.

It is interesting that other crime reporting groups are slamming that study. It looks like they hit a nerve.

They said they put weights on crimes based on how serious they were to help rank the areas.

Thanks for the link. As much as people like to complain, the upper two really aren't that bad in most areas, but it seems like the type of incidents are getting more and more violent. On the contrary, crime seems to still be going down in some areas, like Davie, Sunrise, Plantation for example made huge strides in it's crime rate over the past few years. Weston's crime rate has almost doubled in the past 3 years, but from the CD index of 65.8, that's not really saying much LOL. Crime in the latter two seems to be soaring as of late...

When do you think we'll see the 'Weston Boyz'?

This is how people need to look at Miami in rankings through County Rankings not city rankings as we all know the City of Miami is really small, 8 square miles around 300,000+ people, I believe.

It still is considered that way. It's just people think were the "Second worst" at everything including it's residents.

Drugs are prominent and murders/shootings are commonplace. I'm looking forward to moving to Miami next week to be safer!

I'm sure there is no one in the history of America that has lived "both" places in one lifetime...LOL
