I suggest doing super research before moving to the states. If not, you could be making a huge mistake.

I say move to Miami and see it for yourself... but don't stop there... venture into as many cities as you can.

Caution: houses and anything larger than a 1 br condo in the desirable parts of Miami are not that cheap, you can't just look at, say, the median, ...that is, assuming you don't want to live in a ghetto or somewhere that's a 45 minute drive to get anywhere. That and the fact with with the hurricane insurance you can't afford nearly as much house as you *think* you can afford.

A few years ago Miami did get down into the 30's at night and upper 40's with rain all day, so it is possible to get cold in Miami. During the 2 years I lived in Honolulu, I think it got down to like 60 once. If you think Honolulu surf is cold, try Miami Beach in February...brrr (although you feel tough when it's 68 degree surf and you're out swimming and everybody else is scared to touch the water!) San Diego I got you though, but that's the surf, not *technically* the climate
The cold surf he was referring to was San Diego, not Honolulu.

The only people swimming in the ocean in December are the tourists. 78 degrees is too cold for most locals.

Theoretically, the shallow waters at Miami Beach are ideal to be warm...But I've read that ( little ) sharks can attack even in these shallow waters....

Just remember, Miami is a place where those born and raised there before 1980 all hate it. It has turned into a dumping place for the world's lost souls and downtrodden. The only thing they like to "plant" there now is overpriced tacky developments to warehouse more of the world's lost souls.

No--it was not directed at anyone in particular. It's just that anytime I planned to move somewhere I heard so many negative opinions that if I listened to and believed them, I might have changed my mind. People really are looking for different things in places. I hated Florida and Florida weather when I was much younger, but find myself exceedingly fond of it now. I also like SE Fla and really dislike the west coast of Fla. Many people (especially those from the South and Midwest) love the west coast of Fla and it very pretty -- we just find it sort of boring and way too conservative. Different strokes. It kind of irks me when people who are giving their own personal opinion state it like it is a virtual truth rather than someone's subjective view (nature of the internet I guess). Places are all so very subjective. One person's paradise is another person's nightmare. The weather is easily viewed on any weather site--Miami is tropical and if you don't like tropical weather--of course you would not like it. My spouse is British and actually does think Miami is paradise, as do many European friends.
