I'm 23, have a full time job, a college degree and multiple talents.

I need extra money to save up for a house and continue with my education. And I thought I could dance and mime on the streets to collect some money.

Is it illegal to do that? Many 'homeless' people just stand there to ask for money to buy cigarettes and alcohol. I know that by fact!

Should I go for it? Or look for a second job?

What's your opinion?

That sort of nonsense won't fly in Houston. Just another annoyance to avoid for Houstonians.

Personally I enjoy street performances as part of the lively urban streetscape as found in most major cities around the world. Alas, Houston is not one where you find a lively urban streetscape with corresponding pedestrians. I think this lack would be your biggest obstacle. But, downtown has been revitalizing so if legal I would say go for it!

If you think you can make more $$ per hour than you can in a second job, then give it a go. I personally would not bet on it, and agree with above poster that you would be another annoyance for Houstonians to avoid - kinda like the windshield washers at the corner of Weslayan and 59.

I had to look twice, but I'm definitely seeing this in the Miami forum, so I have to ask- why the heck would anyone care what people from Houston have to say?

You might be able to get away with it in South Beach, but I'm not sure if there technically are permits that are required. I know I see guys with shopping carts selling coconuts in Lummus Park all the time.

yeah, was it a board error?

I like street entertainment
like the guy that played a violin on the metrorail, the beggar dog, or the homeless guy who did wheelies on his wheelchair on us1. miming would be cool. it isn't in the same class as those people who come up and wash your windshield

Must have been. It is interesting to see how people in Houston would find such a thing to be annoying, yet in Miami, well, you and I, don't have a problem with it.

You can always join up with the guy who was using one of the light posts as a drum set at Govt. Center today, he was not that bad either...
