Spirit is a no-frills airline such as, youll pay for your seat. Just pack your own food and sleep throughout the flight. Jetblue is way better if you can fly with them.

You sound like a guy on a tight budget so just go to Cuba ... Medellin is already chock full of miserly American Xpats.

I flew on Spirit once from Vegas to San Diego, and it was a pretty terrible experience.

I would not recommend it.

Many opinions.
If you are young (at least at heart) and travel backpacker style, can still bend in awkward positions, have free time in case the boarding gate and time change last minute...go for it, Spirit.
If You are accustomed to better comfort, carry one or more large check-in suitcases, want some form of screens to give You the news, WiFi while still in US, a heavy cart up and down the alley with adult beverages for $5, reclining seats, pillow, blanket, Sky Mall...go mainstream airline.

I wouldn't care about Spirit comments. My brother always use it. Last time he was precisely to Medellín, and he never have had any problems besides that is SUPER cheap now. Miami/F. Lauderdale is $139 round trip!!!! it's even cheaper than going to NY. Medellín btw, is beautiful now. Full of tourists from around the world. He hired an airbnb house in a nice neighborhood and was fall in love. Now he wants to move there after asking permission in his job to work as a satelite there and work from the computer. I've seen this tendency lately.

I've flown Spirit a dozen times for shorter flights (2 hours). Never had any problems. If you wait until you get to the airport a carry-on is $50. You are allowed 1 free bag as long as it is within the measurements of "16 x 14 x 12," although the I did get away with not being charged one time and my Nike bag was "21 x 11 x 12."

Spirit is cheap because of its "no thrills" No entertainment or snacks. You paid for your seat. They board the plane by groups, if I'm remembering correctly.

I will say, my last flight was a very empty flight so I was able to sit elsewhere aha.

I took the Spirit flight from FLL to MDE a couple of years back over presidents day weekend. It wasn't bad, since it was a direct flight and it took off on time. The choice depends on your financial situation and how many airline miles you have to determine which route you should choose.

$139 roundtrip? where and when? I don't see those prices. The cheapest I see is $253.14
