My son (27) has relocated to Miami area is a flight attendant for AA. What area's would be safe and close to MIA. He will be getting a room mate in February. Looking for a 2/2.

All depends on budget.

I've helped AA attendants get housing In the past. They had to get 4 people into a 2 bedroom because they were all making less than $30k/year.

Serenity on the River has 2 bedrooms for $1550-$1800 and is close to everything but still gated, with a pool and parking and gym. A few other buildings along the river similar could work.

Can get a 2 bedroom loft downtown for $1900-$2000 as well. anything right around the airport is pretty crappy unless you go down Le Jeune to before the 8th st area. A few condo buildings there will be ok and under $2k/month.

Well if they are making $50k year each, then they can afford $1k/each for a 2 bedroom. No problem getting a 2 bedroom in Miami Beach, Miami River, Doral, Aventura, etc.

I grew up near North Miami, it has changed a lot, I cannot recommend it.

I spent a few years living in Virginia Gardens and Miami Springs - this area buffers the north side of MIA. It has a Mayberry feel to it, for a Miami city anyway...mostly homes in the area but apartments can be found. VERY CONVENIENT and has good nature, trees, supermarkets, restaurants, not far from Hialeah and Doral, etc.

As the other poster mentioned, the airport area (36th Street/LeJeune Road) is not good for apartments. But if you go deep into Miami Springs or Virginia Gardens, you can find duplexes and other apartments. These are generally smaller buildings since houses dominate the area, but the Springs in my opinion is very desirable and safe place to be - many people who worked for the airlines (i.e. Eastern) grew up and/or lived in Miami Springs/V.Gardens. If he can find something there, it would be worth the effort.

I went out with a Flight Attendant who lived in a "crashpad" which is an apartment rented by multiple flight attendants. You basically just get your own bed and have to share everything else. It was on a small building on 42nd Ave. and S.W. 7th street just a few minutes from the airport. Your son should look into that if he doesn't plan on staying home much. If he wants his own place and doesn't want to spend too much money then he should probably look into renting around the Blue Lagoon and Flagami area. They have a lot of apartments in the area and he'll be close to the airport. It's a Hispanic working class neighborhood but it's safe and not too expensive.

I also went out with another flight attendant (I have a type) who lived up in Pembroke Pines by I-75 with other flight attendant roommates. He had his own room but the downside was he had to own a car to drive to the airport which was usually a 40 minute to an hour drive depending on traffic. The problem is that since he was so far from the airport he couldn't be very far from home on the days he was on-call/standby. So basically he was stuck out in Western Broward away from all the fun stuff most of the time he was in town. I eventually got to know his neighborhood very well.
