I'll be back in Miami soon, thank god.. and I'll have a few more days of break and I was thinking about taking a day trip out to key west. Would that be something fairly enjoyable/fun? Any recommendations for things to do there? Also, I'm open to any other suggestions on some places to visit.

I'm into anything to be honest. What kind of fishing do they have there? Anything with reasonable prices where i wouldn't have to bring my own tackle and pole?

A day trip to Key West really isn't going to be enjoyable. Can you stay a night or two? Its a 4hr drive to Key West don't forget that. So that would be 8hrs in a car on that one day, not much time to have an enjoyable time in Key West. If you want to go fishing why not just go to Key Largo, 1hr from Miami.

This time of year Everglades National Park would make a great day trip. The hotter and more humid it gets, the less enjoyable it is to go there (read: mosquitos!), so take advantage while you can.

Shark Valley is an easy afternoon trip. Make sure to bring a bike for the 16 mile loop, it's VERY cool.

Otherwise maybe just down to Bahia Honda. Pretty beach and fun places to stop along the way and not as far as KW.

Have fun!

Bahia Honda is a beautiful beach that is about 2.5 hours from downtown Miami in normal traffic. Key West, in normal traffic, is a 3.25 to 3.5 hour drive. I would recommend driving down to Bahia Honda, spending the afternoon at the beach, continuing to Key West, spending the night there, and then spending the next day there. You could leave after dinner for the drive up to Miami.

For a day trip, I would recommend Islamorada. It's a little under 1.5 hours from downtown Miami in normal traffic and has plenty of restaurants, shops, little beaches, and fishing excursions departing from town. Let me know if you have any questions!

Here are some pictures of Bahia Honda State Park:
