the place still has a lot of foreclosures, so it is a huge gamble and some HOAs are doing better than others but no one knows what kind of people are going to move to the cheaper areas.

So unless you're a urban pioneer it's a gamble.

If you have no problem with rude people, crappy drivers, and burglars. Than I guess this is the place for you-OH dont forget nasty streets and prostitutes! I grew up here and its sad to see what has become of my hometown.

I've lived in south Dade for 31 years and worked in Coral Gables for 36 years. The further south I drive, closer to Homestead I get, the more polite the drivers are and more polite in general I have found the people to be. Rude drivers? Check out Coral Gables, Pinecrest, the ritzy areas.....they have a "me, me, me attitude".

I agree with the above, I have acutally noticecd that I don't find the drivers in South Dade to be bad at all compared to most of Dade and Broward, just sometimes very slow and hesitant to move over into the right lane on US1. Rude people is personal experience, but also agree about the burglars. Certainly not the hamburglar you are dealing with, either.

Homestead is fine during the day, in fact they have a lot of newer developments going up, although it's not so fine at night, in fact, I wouldn't drive around there after dark. Avoid the Super WalMart and anywhere around U.S. 1 at night. Ditto for Florida City.

WOW, these responses are interesting. I love homestead && florida city. It depends on your AGE, cause judging by the responses above, they must be 35+. Even though crime may be a problem, thats EVERYWHERE. There are many nice places to stay: Keys Gate, and west from there (get in where you fit in) As for the schools, I agree. I lived in Florida City, and attended Robert Morgan Eudcational Center, which is about 25 mins. away. Besides, that it is a warm enviroment, not alot of traffic, assorted cultures and food places.
