This is old, but I saw this and had to laugh. As if someone who was interested in purchasing a 10 million dollar home would be searching for real estate advice on city-data.com. Might wanna check out a bass boat forum too and find out where you can purchase a 150ft Burger Yacht. Apparently he's also looking for a place in Atlanta or LA.

I'd rent in South Beach for a year and see how you like it. But, if your intention is to eventually buy, I would keep your eyes open for a good deal. The Beach's real estate hasn't suffered as badly as Miami's. So, the good deals out there aren't going to last as long as the ones on the other side of the bay.
When you do buy, keep in mind two things:
  1. Condo HOA dues for 3 bedrooms will be attrocious.
  2. Hurricane insurance on a single family home will be attrocious
So, whichever you choose, you'll be paying for it.
:-)

Default money is no object?

I just bought a house on miami beach because I have a dog and plan to have a family, I wanted a yard and such, but if neither of those things were in place upscale condo is where I would be.
