Casuarina Equisetifolia, or Australian Pines on I-95 heading South. (The furry looking ones) These are among the most ubiquitous tropical trees in the world, outside of Coconut palms and Indian Almonds.

Also the shorter trees with the huge leaves are Sea Grapes. Edible fruit on those, that do in fact, taste just like grapes.

Roystonea Regia, one of my favorite ubiquitous Miami palms. Incredibly lush green foliage.

The tree behind it is Bucida Buceras, or the Black Olive tree. Also known as the Shady Lady tree. Never park under one of these, if you can avoid it, because when it rains, the seeds will knock off and stain your car -- at least until the next couple of rains! =D

Still, Bucida Buceras is one of my favorite trees in all of the Southland, because it is the lushest, with the most varied hues and brightest, mixed with deepest darkest greens. The visual texture of these trees is exquisite!

You will never see translucent date palms in Southern California. They just don't get the temperatures and humidity for that level of new growth green.
