Around 25.000 Cubans, political refugees.
A country town compared to Havana during the 50's. Even the Picking' Chicken in Havana was bigger and nicer and the Jantzen lighted announcement was three times larger.
Those people in the home movie walking on the beach look like Ma Barker and family, quite provincial, nobody dressed in sports.

If you got hit by one one of those cars as a pedestrian back in the 50's, they didn't need to call the hospital it was a call straight to the morgue. LOL!!!,that was like being hit by a tank.

This was the era where the big names came to Miami Beach subsequently Las Vegas became the new stomping grounds in the 1960's.

It sure shows how far down the toilet we have come. Miami was a beautiful place, until drug money and zoning ruined it. The old animated neon was legislated out of existence. Drug money laundered through Miami demolished just about everything in the 80's. Now we have an overpopulated, overbuilt condo canyon where the sun used to shine. My parents used to live on Miami Beach in the 50's and they tell me stories about how it was.
