At 10 PM EST tonight, June 4, 2011, HGTV's "House Hunters" is going to feature a young couple who want to sell their two bdrm condo in downtown Detroit and move to a house in the suburbs where their kids will have a yard to play in and they have room for an art studio. Their budget is $300,000. This is according to HGTV's website.

Sounds interesting. I'm so glad they continue to make episodes in Detroit, so that the rest of America can see that it isn't all bad. I'm looking forward to watching!

I thought it was very flattering to Detroit and all three suburbs where the buyers looked at homes. They even stated that a con of the first home was its distance from downtown Detroit, and a pro of the second house in Royal Oak was that it was "only fifteen minutes from downtown Detroit". The shots of Detroit made it appear to be bustling and filled with happy urbanites. Overall, I was quite impressed. However, I kind of wondered why they made it sound like Troy was in Washtenaw County or something..."Troy, a suburb 20 miles from Detroit"...what???

Also, the husband is a clay sculptor for one of the auto companies. This work would be done in Warren, Dearborn, or Auburn Hills.

I liked it. I thought it showed Detroit in a very positive light, which is really refreshing to see.

Driving Directions from Google Maps--Downtown Detroit to Troy:

Via Woodward/Main/Livernois--20.1 mi.

So, technically......

Just sayin'.

Yep, you're right, it just doesn't seem that far to me. It's funny how Detroit is consistent rated either the most dangerous city in the country or at least in the top five, and yet Troy is consistently rated in the top five or so of safest cities in the country. The national media don't seem interested in how nice the suburbs of Detroit are, though, for some reason...
