Well, I couldn't mention the Pigeon River area because I'm not familiar with it. Same with the UP. I tend to stay along Lake Michigan. Another intriguing spot for me is Negwegon state pk on Lake Huron.
Other neat places fitting the criteria:
Wilderness state park
Ludington state park and Nordhouse Wilderness.
Hodenpyl Pond to Tippy Dam Pond.
Kalkaska area.
Pentwater Pathway known for biking.
State game areas have trails (and hunters)
Yankee Springs rec area.
Allegan state game area has trails and rustic camping.
For beaches you want Lake Michigan - inland lakes are not sandy. Ludington state park, Lake Michigan rec area, The Bear, are gems. Plenty of other parks on that lake.
You mentioned climbing - well we have trees.

Sounds like the MI tech trails. Marquette has lots of similar trails in fact mqt was ranked no 3 in the nation by bike mag. that vid I posted has some sweet shots.
