We recently bought a house in Mason, MI (many thanks to all the people who had great advice when I moved here a couple of years ago). We love it and love our little town. BUT when we need to go to a Lowes or Home Depot or Sam's Club, Jackson has become a destination. Although it's a bit further than Lansing, all the shops are fairly close so we don't have to go across town to get all the shopping done.

Now for the question. Any suggestions on restaurants in Jackson? We've been eating at all the chains along 96 but would love to explore the city a bit more. Other suggestions for things to do would be appreciated as well.

Thanks!

Not knowing what you prefer to eat, Jackson offers a variety of cuisines, upscale restaurants, also buffets, fast food restaurants of course. Jackson offers both local town eateries & national chain restaurants. Check out this website & decide what may sound good to you. www.visitjacksonmi.com/restaurants/dining/ go to dining section to choose what you want to click on restaurant or bars & nightlife or both.

This makes no sense to me. I grew up in Hillsdale and we would often go to Lansing to go shopping, just so that we didn't have to go to Jackson. lol Even though Jackson was a 45 minute drive and Lansing was an hour an 15 minutes... and here you are, living in Mason, where Lansing is only like 10-15 minutes away, and you are driving FURTHER to go to Jackson instead? wat

Did you know that there is a Lowes, Sam's Club, and Menards (which is basically the same thing as a Home Depot) all in one small area in south Lansing (on Cedar St.), along with many other stores in that area too?

Also there is north Lansing's Saginaw Highway and East Lansing's Meridian Mall area - both of which are also packed with stores and also closer than Jackson.

Heck, I would drive to almost anywhere to avoid the Cedar Street/I-96 interchange. That is one of the most screwed up interchanges I have ever seen. Plus, you have the creepy "Dad's Inn" constantly in the background.

I don't blame anyone from Mason for driving to Jackson instead of putting up with south Lansing.

If I want to go to Home Depot, Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, those are in three separate areas of Lansing area. I generally have specific reasons for choosing those stores on a particular outing (not that I don't often shop at Lowe's and Meijer as well - never Menards, though, I have not been impressed). Plus it is a quick painless drive down 127. So, to Jackson I go when the need arises.

Thanks, baker for the link. We pretty much eat anything (though we generally avoid buffets, too much microbiology training here) - sometimes we like high cuisine, sometimes dives. All as long as it is GOOD food. I just want to know people's favorites!
