I saw an interview on WNEM the other day from Flint with their road director, or whatever such a person is titled. He said that in the space of 12 hours that they had cycled from filling potholes with asphalt to having the plows back on the road. Apparently the best way to keep potholes from expanding is to cap them right away. I thought this was quite interesting. I guess I never realized they fill potholes during winter before. I was under the impression that they just wait until spring to fill them in.

2 whole posts and we can tell you are just full of sunshine. Where are you that the roads are so bad? I haven't seen a pothole in quite a while here... then again the roads have been snow and ice covered for quite a while too.

LOL, right? I've seen both of its posts and it has a hard time making sense. Perhaps its a Southern transplant, or scared of winter driving, or wrema.

Depending on the jobsite, my commute is typically from 50-100 miles round-trip per day.

I drive RWD no-frills cargo vans and have never, in over 30 years of winter OR summer commuting, had an accident, "sunk into a giant pothole" [sic] or, well, anything dramatic really. It's Michigan. Winter weather happens. Crappy roads happen. It snows and gets cold here. You either suck it up and get to work without excessive whining, or you don't.

Yes, there are lots of potholes right now.

No, it does not impact my life at all.

One, I know how to drive and I pay attention. Two, my daily happiness does not depend on whether the roads are silky smooth or not. Smooth roads are a luxury, not a necessity.

Agreed, the roads are atrocious. I drive a lot for work and I can't even imagine what spring thaw is going to be like.

They did the cheap patch jobs on the side streets near me to fill in potholes. You can usually just hear the rocks jumping out as you drive over them. They didn't last more than 2 weeks before the patches were pretty much gone.

Madison Heights. I-75 Service Drive between 10 and 12 Mile. Not sure you can even consider much of it a road anymore (more like shattered chunks of concrete). However, I believe they did re-do a stretch of it. And John R (between 11 Mile and 12 Mile) was repaved last summer. So was 12 Mile (between John R and Dequindre). Hopefully they keep up the maintenance.

Lot of streets here in the Lansing area are total crap right now. Not surprisig given the weather. Lots of patching to do come spring (when more permanent patches than semi-frozen asphalt can be used).
