With all the devistation happening in the south, I am very thankful to live in the U.P. The only thing we have to worry about is moving snow, and not many people lose their lives doing that! My heart goes out to all the victims.......

Michigan has some of the best weather in the country. I think people who want to move because of winter would quickly learn that this is true.

I like MI but it has some of the worst weather in the country. I moved to NM -- this state has some of the best weather in the country. Low humidity, lots of sunshine, mild winters (snow is rare), summer heat is mitigated by monsoon season and the evenings have considerable temperature drops to make things comfortable even on the hottest days. If I want to see snow in the winter I can drive up into the mountains and get my fill of it.

MI generally has good summers (lots of sunshine and comfortable temps) but it just doesn't last. The lakes moderate the temperatures but that means a LOT of cloud cover and lake effect snow in the winter (including "springter" and "fallter"). The pleasant summer weather just doesn't make up for the other 9 months of the year.

I respect your opinion...but have to totally disagree. Weather related to Clouds and cool weather are totally different then having to worry about tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, wildfires, drought and all that other stuff. Much of the country has to worry about severe conditions that can kill hundreds if not thousands of people at any time, or leave you without a home. The upper midwest is nice...but they do get nasty...nasty blizzards that kill many people. The south gets all kinds of weather that can kill including massive heat waves coupled with humidity. Look at Texas...they hardly get any rain even though they have lots of sun...I would rather have rain a few days a week. The only states that can compare are out west, but then even though rare...do have to worry about earthquakes. Agian...when I say some of the best weather...I mean weather that can get real..real nasty. Winters here to me are nothing, and are actually pretty fun for the most part. Really the only thing besides a nasty snowstorm or two that we have to worry about are tornadoes....but even they are VERY rare.

On most years, mid-April through mid-October can be VERY nice here. This April has been pretty lousy, probably an aberration. I'm hoping a very nice May can make up for it. New Mexico sounds like a nice, temperate place. And the mountains are pretty close when you need a break from the heat.

I've often thought NM would be a very nice state to live in weather wise. It really sounds perfect to me. Winters are the deal breaker for many when it comes to Michigan. I tip my hat to you hearty folks who actually love winter, but for some of us it's just an intollerable situation. I'd be happy to live elsewhere from Jan through March. I'd come back sometime in April and then stay through Christmas.
