We are looking into buying a home.

I will need to rent for the meantime.

Say I give myself 4 months rental time, with looking at homes, would that be enough time to find the home (i have a few to look at already), and do all of the stuff, and close....

My dh said that in NYC, closing takes a loooooong time.

I was trying to think of getting a three month lease (the other month is vacation time elsewhere), or a 6 month lease.

Any thoughts on this?

The area is Ann Arbor......

Sue

It really all depends on how well organized your Realtor, the sellers Realtor, the lender and everybody else is that is involved in the transaction. We found, offered, and closed on a house in just over 6 weeks, but also had a couple of months of prep time before that to make double darn sure credit reports didn't have any snags, and the Mortgage broker had everything they needed BEFORE we put in an offer and started the ball rolling. Plus our Realtor was perfect to work with and I couldn't have pick a better person to arrange things for us because we were living out of state. She was simply FANTASTIC (And I normally think of Realtors as being just above used car salesmen.)

good advice, we closed on a cottage in appx 30 days, and that included a major error in the Reg of Deeds office. An atty messed something up in the 1950's, and he was still alive and corrected the mistake...very cool. We had an atty also, worth the money if they know real estate.
Good Luck.
