I would say your best bet would be Grand Rapids.
Good luck!

I would suggest Ann Arbor...population of about 110,000 has the lowest unemployment rate in the state, very good job prospects if you have some college education in your background. Lots of locally owned restaurants, tons of entertainment, art, theater. If you are in the restaurant and hotel industry it would be good pick for you, downtown Ann Arbor is always bustling with people restaurants are never slow. Out of your list I would stay away from Kalamazoo and Benton harbor..Grand Rapids would also be a good choice for you, but is much further away than Ann Arbor to your present location.

Good Luck!

I agree that Grand Rapids is worth a look. They seem to still be doing well there. Good luck.

Anywhere on the west side of the state -- Grand Rapids, Saugatuck, places like that but don't even bother with Muskegon -- is looking generally good, but I agree Ann Arbor is a good choice in Southeast MI.

One of the posters suggested staying away from Kalamazoo...I'm not sure why. The Kalamazoo/Portage area is a very good community for the most part so I wouldn't rule that out if you can find employment.

There is no place in Michigan ( except the UP maybe ) , that has escaped the recession.

Bite the bullet , suck it up , and move to Chicago. If you can't make it there , you can't make it anywhere.....

Check with the Casino in Mt Pleasant? I'm pretty sure they drug test just FYI. I had a friend who worked there years ago. They had an employment call, she stood in line forever. Everyone who had the basic qualifications and consented took a urine test, she said it weeded down the possibles to like 30% of the original applicants.

Michigan..job opportunities...now that's a toughie...
Grand Rapids as slim as that is could very well be the best choice. Ann Arbor if not for the fact school is in and most of the jobs you mentioned are taken by UM students...another possibility..again remote..is Traverse City. Not many people think of it but it seems to be holding its own and has some nice restaurants...
MAYBE the casinos in Mt. Pleasant??

Michigan and job opportunities are not fitting well right now for many employment fields.
