But it is still higher than unemployment or flipping burgers.

Mindsets have to change from the ol' UAW days. It's better to have SOME of the pie, than to demand the whole pie, and end up with none of it when the company either moves or folds.

Sorry , wasn't a UAW person. I do understand a job is better than nothing BUT it also doesn't make sense to work just to be in poverty.

I read that the $12 is the STARTING salary, and rise quickly as skills improve. Just like most other jobs sounds like to me. Bring um on!

Wasn't trying to say that YOU were a UAW person. It did come out that way though, sorry. I meant we have to get over thinking of the high UAW driven wages as the norm, they never were the norm for anyplace other than the Detroit area, and not that has come back to haunt them.

Same thing I read, but one section did say that in Saginaw the starting was at $10 with the UAW rep wishing it would be more unionized... they never learn.

$12 an hour is poverty? i guess if you have to live in a mini mansion, with an hd flat screen tv, excess food from sams club, a gas guzzling suv, property up north, designer clothes, and a golf membership.

its called being a consumer *****, we don't need all this sh*t. we need a warm place to sleep, food to eat, and running water. everything else is excess. but many people in america couldn't grasp that if it saved their lives.

The problem is, the economy and of course the extremely high taxes our expensive government wants isn't based on a consumer base that lives on just the bare essentials.

When do the politicians start slashing their own salaries, and those of state workers such as teachers to match?

You (and CNN) expect a production line job, requiring very little post-high-school education, to pay more than $10 - $12/hour to start?

Honestly guy, Teachers? seriously? they don't make squat until about 12 years down the road, AND THEY ARE EDUCATING OUR FUTURE.
