Well I went to "Chicken Shack" today for our twice a year, but very looked forward to dinner of Chicken and Fish. We love it, it is greasy, it tastes great, it might be bad for us, but given we do it 1-2 times a year, who cares!

On the way out after picking up the meal, I saw a sign that said "Now cooking with Tri-Fri Healthy Oils!". Cool.. I walked out, and we got home and started eating it.. AWFUL! The fish outside was cooked, the inside had a mooshy texture. Same with the chicken. Everything left a nasty aftertaste in our mouths making the food nearly INEDIBLE!

Immediately I called Chicken Shack and spoke to the manager. At first he wasn't too open to discuss it, then when he realized I wasn't a mystery diner he opened right up.. He said that the state is mandating they switch oils by 2008 and they've been trying to find a healthy one that tastes good but have been failing at that task. He said they get a lot of complaints about the new so-called healthy oils. They were forced to raise prices across the board because the new oil is 4 times more expensive. Our normal fish bucket went from $18.99, up to $21.99... So not only do we pay more, but we get worse flavor and a nasty aftertaste?

Seems he is right;

Now my question is, who is silly enough to believe that the reason people are fat is because of oil? The reason people are fat is because of lack of exercise, poor nutrition overall, and other aspects like EMF/EMR exposure and sedentary lifestyles.

When I want greasy fried food, I AM NOT WORRIED about the nutritional benefits! I don't need lawmakers deciding what I can and cannot eat! What is wrong with this state????

The article says that 18 states have either banned or are in the process of banning trans fats. It's not just Michigan.

With the massive obesity problem in this country, and with more and more kids being diagnosed with Type II Diabetes (used to be primarily adults, called "adult onset diabetes), I think every little bit helps.

So whats next, ban soda? Please.. Anything in moderation doesn't make you fat, trans fat in moderation doesn't make someone fat. Sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy habits, and poor diets make people fat.

You can't fix obesity by banning one tiny fraction of the entire thing, so no, "every little bit" doesn't help. All it does is make people wonder the motivation behind it. This new "Oil" made my entire family sick, literally, on the toilet for half the night. Talk about a toxic soup! Give me trans fat back.

If you want a quick and easy answer to what is causing a lot of our ailments (Type2, etc), take a look at EMF/EMR and Cellular phones. Their effect on the human glandular system is unbelievable. Ultimately, I think it will be determined that EMF/EMR stress is causing a vast amount of ailments.

Anyway thats for a different subject.. They can keep their toxic oils, give me my good tasting chicken back!

Well actually schools are starting to ban sodas from schools as well, or at least many are ending their contracts with the pop machines they used to have.

I've never even heard of a Chicken Shack, so can't help you on that one. I don't put that kind of garbage in my system, no matter what kind of oil they use.

Many schools have already banned sodas. I agree that is a good idea. Habits start young and those are empty calories just helping the obesity rates along. Chicken shack type food or fast food is never going to be any good for anyone regardless of the oils. I am for the ban of trans fat.

Anything in moderation is fine, seriously. If I want good greasy chicken a couple times a year, I better be able to get it and not have some dogooders telling me what I can and cannot enjoy.

Anyone foolish enough to eat that stuff every day, or every week, DESERVES to be fat! Anyway, the new oils give you gas, runs, and stomach cramps. So enjoy your new healthy-toxic oils that your system rejects!

I bet 10K in a few years they'll find out the new oils cause cancer or something.. Just watch.

I'm not an expert in nutrition or a nutritionist, but my understanding is that all oils are pretty much toxic when heated at high temperatures.

I'm not willing to eat 'junk'--not even once or twice a year. It's just not worth it to me to forfeit one or two days of my vibrant health

You're not going to add genetics and metabolic issues to this list?
