There is one major difference between the people of the deserts of the middle east, north Africa, and Chile, and that is the fact that they do not waste water like people in the American west. The people in those parts of the world do live as if they were in a desert, because they have too. No fancy manicured lawns, daily 20 min showers. The Saudis also payed for expensive desalination plants. That part of the world supports those populations because they use alot less water per person, and of course they feed themselves by importing food purchased with oil revenue. People in the western US think they can use as much water as they want, and if it runs dry well we can just take the water from midwestern states by draining the great lakes and mississippi river. Boy are they in for a rude awakening.

Ha, let's see what our government will do about that situation when it gets here, whenever this may happen...
