1. He is being allowed to extend in order to complete a series of ACAP outprocessing classes.
2. When reviewing his file for outprocessing, it was discovered that someone involved in processing his Article 15 paperwork messed up his pay, so he is also going to receive a significant amount of back pay - as well as getting his rank back quickly.
3. He and his fiancee are going to be allowed to get married with chain of command approval.
Things are looking up for him and he's got a really positive attitude about the whole situation. Several people in his chain of command, finance, and ACAP are being very supportive of him, and that's made a huge difference in his attitude and approach to everything.
It is so frustrating for you, I know, as the mother of 3 sons who were all soldiers. The military and its workings are incomprehensible to most of us. Even when my son explains something to me, its all acronyms that I don't get.
Anyway, bottom line is that you should try not to invest yourself in his issues, which I know is hard. If I were you, I'd be thinking that your son invested so many years of his life in the worst hell holes that soldiers go to, and this is the thanks he gets.
The Army is downsizing, big time. ANYTHING the least bit detrimental puts a bullseye on your son's forehead. That's just the way it is right now. Try to think that it might be a blessing in disguise.

Oh, I definitely agree.
I have three kids in the military. Two are doing great but this son, who has always been a handful, has struggled with the conformity required, even though there are many things he loves about the military. It simply may not be a fit for his personality. I think he'll be fine - it's just been hard on me to listen to him feeling distressed lately. He sounds a lot better and more on top of his game in recent conversations. I honestly think he just never seriously considered actually being a civilian - don't know why he didn't, but now that he's gotten his head around the idea, he's a lot calmer and objective about it.
