I'm in the Navy DEP right now and ship soon. However, something has been bugging me about a med issue.

At a routine physical a year ago there was 30mg of protein in my urine and microscopic trace blood. At a routine physical a few months ago there was no protein but there was again microscopic trace blood. My period was on both times and the doctor said it meant nothing both times, and then he noted it in my medical record, and that was that.

My recruiter knows, both his superiors know, and so does the Chief Medical Officer of the Meps I went to. The CMO also said it meant nothing and that the only thing they are concerned with are UTI's(Urinary Tract Infections), not anything to do with menstruation.

My worry is that even though everyone who should know about the blood and protein does indeed know it's not noted in their records. It's only in my civilian ones. I didn't even put it on the medical forms because I didn't want to make a big deal and shoot myself in the foot about something that only occurred because of PMS.

However, it's still bothering me a bit. I think I should have put it down anyway or at least I wish the CMO had wrote it in my notes. He wrote down other stuff we talked about after all.

Should I leave it alone since everyone who knows says it's nothing or should I tell Meps at my second visit so it can be logged? My recruiter probably is going to be pissed because I probably won't ship until much later, and I've already waited 9 months so far for this one.

I just don't want them to take a urinalysis during P-week find some trace blood or protein, and then I'm sent home over fraudulent enlistment, and have my life ruined just because of not telling them about PMS problems.

Note: There was no protein in my urine at the physical at MEPS. Apparently everything came back clean for me. Not sure if they checked for blood though.

If you told MEPS then it would normally be noted by the CMO on his notes. Do not over-stress this.

He gave me my package back after we were done talking. I read over what he wrote, and he didn't mention it. Honestly, I should have written it on the medical form and shouldn't have just relied on word of mouth.

Leave it alone...do not make an issue out of something that isn't an issue. You had labs at MEPS and they were satisfied, never speak of this again. The people that don't make it are the ones that bring up every bump, scrape, cold, etc. they ever had. It won't be fraudulent enlistment unless you bring up previous things from your past that have no bearing on your current situation. Any blood, protein, etc. found at a later time is new information and has nothing to do with any past situation you've had.

If you catch a cold in boot camp that doesn't mean it was related to some cold you had previously, same for this situation.

I was a recruiting supervisor for 15 years, trust what you're being told. There is a reason all those people told you it is a non issue...it is a non issue and you never need to think about or speak of it again.

You're going to get yourself disqualified it you aren't careful- stop worrying and let it go. The MEPS doctor is trained to know what to worry about for military entrance. He has no reason to tell you something is OK if it's not. Calm down and trust the system. You were on your period. It was likely just period blood. Keep pushing, and they'll disqualify you because they may have to unless they can definitively prove the blood isn't from a disorder. The absolutely foremost expert on medical conditions that are OK for joining the military said it is OK.... so let it go.

My spouse has had trace blood in her urine her entire life, as does her cousin. It is nothing to worry about.

Not every disease in the world gets you kicked out of the military. If the condition is manageable, and doesn't affect your job, then the military won't worry about it. I had a couple of friends that had medical problems and had to take prescription medication and they were never kicked out. In fact they were allowed to reenlist.
