I agree. I felt ( and still feel) military service is one of my obligations as a citizen of this country.
If anybody does not agree, I neither want nor need to hear about it. I have held that belief for over 60 years, and nobody will change my mind at this late date!

When I joined, Vietnam war tech and tactics were still common place, and those were the most advanced anywhere at the time--best in the world. No, we didn't have Star Trek phasers or warp engines...the mindset wasn't any different than it is now.

'Would I join'? I am not sure, maybe. Cutting edge technology got me interested, the idea of developing new uses of physics and new areas of technology. What we did in the 70s, 80s and 90s was pretty fascinating.

If I turned 18 in 1915-1920 it would still mean high tech for that era. But obviously in different fields.

But if we were using 1920 technology in the 1970s? Without any chance of developing new tech? No way.

After I finished my first enlistment, I would not have stayed if the money was not there. Re-Enlistment Bonuses and tax-free status were the primary motives for staying on Active Duty.

if WWI tactics & weaponry were still in use most people wouldnt know any better and accept it the same as always, those were the days when men were men, they wouldnt know about modern technology , so they wouldnt have anything to compare it with except older battles like the Civil War or Spanish American War.

just watch the movie "ALL QUIET on The WESTERN FRONT" and see how patriotic and proud young men were to go fight in battle

So using small arms and close combat to attack and destroy the enemy ended with WWI ?
