My son was stationed in Italy with the Air Force and purchased a vehicle in Germany. He recently received his change of duty station papers moving him to Louisiana. He had the Air Force ship his car back to the United States. The problem is he never received a title, nor does he have a cbp form. He needs to get it titled and registered in the US. What does he need to do? Is there anywhere he can go for assistance?

Default temporary tags are dead

We really need an idea of where to go to get assistance.
He was told by the bank holding his loan to get a bonded title.
However, another agency told him that Louisiana does not accept bonded titles.

Does anybody have any ideas of where to go next... I thought the bank holding the loan would be able to help but that did not work..

I truly do not understand how "He had the Air Force ship his car back to the United States." without the proper paperwork...

Did he purchase a US specification vehicle in Italy? If not, he probably can not legally ship it back...

There is something amiss... Thousands of U.S. Military personnel have shipped vehicles to and from overseas assignments over the years.

Sorry, but I do not think you have the accurate entire story.

Try going to the Louisiana DMV.

My info is second hand but yes it was an american vehicle.
He has tried to get an official title but has had no luck.
He does have a registration and certificate of title from Italy and a bill of sale.
Louisiana will not accept either.

Maybe file for a lost title? Seems like the command he belonged to over there would have a legal office that might be able to shed some light. Or a transportation office - TMO?

Try a different Louisiana DMV. Here's the JRTC website. If he has a clear bill of sale, there should be no problem. I think it is likely he's not giving you the complete story and he bought a pig in a poke.

If he does not have a 7501, NO motor vehicle department will allow that vehicle to be registered. That vehicle did not go through the legal channels for importing into the USA otherwise it would have a 7501.

Doubt he could even sell it as salvage. Chalk it up to experience.
Whoever signed-off on shipping it back here could be in trouble.

If the vehicle has Italian registration it left the US system. What tags did it have - Italien or USAEUR?
