Hello,

I really need to release some steam here....I live close to the Grant Park area in South Milwaukee. There, in the park are the kids playing soccer almost every day mostly in the evening. In general I am very supportive to the sports. I think parents made good decisions enrolling their kids in sports activities rather than letting them sit in front of the TV all day long.

Yet my issue is that some of these soccer playing kids are not really the quiet kind. I certainly understand that's what the sport is maybe all about, but I feel there must be a certain kind out there that goes totally berserk. That ranks from screaming so loud that I can even hear it when my windows are closed, till those kids that require constant attention and ball play and may not give up till they get what they wanted. "Here, heeere, heeeere.. that's what you hear non-stop for hours.

It really goes on my nerve to hear all that first thing when you come home from work or being woken up by it in the morning on weekends.

What is your opinion? Am I somewhat right or am I simply close-minded?

Was the park there first, or you? If, as I suspect, the park was there first then you must learn to live with it. If the park came second, then you have some grounds to demand a noise moritorium and should file a complaint with the city to seek relief by restricting the levels, times, or forcing the construction of some type of sound barrier.

Personally, I feel it is something you should just learn to live with as it will not be worth the aggravation and ill will you will garner by opposing children at play. (and I am not just talking about the kid's ill will either.)

Oh, it's your right to feel annoyed. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. But, parks are meant for the public and they do attract children, and children are noisy. You shouldn't have purchased there if you knew children annoyed you. If you didn't know, well then you know something more about yourself. You're going to have to make peace with it or move. Regarding waking up to it, maybe you can get a white noise machine or learn to sleep with ear plugs. A long time ago, I once rented a house somewhat near a busy road that turned out to be a nightmare for me due to the ambulances and fire trucks. Nothing could drown out the jarring sirens. Never made that mistake again. Anyway, I hope you can find some peace.

I feel your pain, I used to rent a place near a church/school & EVERY day, same time each day, groups of kids in intervals would walk past to go to the park for recess a couple blocks away. Let me tell ya, because I worked later in the day & would be sleeping when they did this, I was SOOOO annoyed by it, it would drive me nuts. But, I the wonders of fans....it's a good thing. I sleep w/one every night, even during the winter, because the white noise thing is a miracle. It pretty much covers up any noise that could annoy or wake you up. I live in Bayview, moved here from the east side, & the thing that annoys me now are the constant planes! I love to watch planes landing, but when you're just hanging out, watching tv, it's so irritating when those planes come in to land. Anyway, other than going out & totally yelling at those kids, really the only thing you can do is either get yourself a fan or maybe turn the tv or radio up. I think it will help your problem.

On my block there are tons of kids. The younger ones play ball and ride their bikes on the sidewalks, the older ones play basketball and football in the street. Sometimes it gets quite loud.

Usually I don't mind the noise so long as there's no foul language or over-the-top horseplay. There usually isn't. I figure that having the sounds of children's laughter and play is a small price to pay for living in the vicinity of other human beings.
