For future reference, most of the time you can do priceline.com and get a very solid stay for under $100 in Milwaukee.

I did priceline and there was nothing available. Literally, nothing. Literally, no rooms.

Though you're already committed to the place in Brookfield, did you check Marquette, UWM, MSOE, MIAD, and other area colleges to see if dorm rooms were available for short-term stays? In the summer of 2001 I stayed at a dorm at UWM for a few days, and it worked out great. And best of all, it was well under $100 per night.

I understand that from your previous post, but I am saying it works most of the time in Milwaukee. And, I'm willing to bet closer to your date some things would open up, but you booked already. And obviously a non-Holiday weekend would be easier.

That weekend is the Harley Davidson 105th Anniversary with people coming from all over the U.S. and abroad. Bruce Springsteen is performing on that Saturday. People will be riding Harley's in town for two weeks prior. Also, this year was the opening of the long anticipated Harley Davidson Museum, years in the making. Check out Harley Davidson 105th anniversary website and you'll see tons of things going on....Brewers in town, people back to school, Holiday weekend....

You hit a bad weekend.

It's okay. Paid a bit more than I would have hoped....but it's not going to be a budget-buster.

I'm still very much looking forward to my visit.

Just an fyi.....this past weekend....some friends of mine did hotwire.com less than to right around 24 hrs notice and had long weekend stay of less than $60/night at the Downtown Hilton at the Convention Center. It's a nice solid place for a stay. (Can walk to Marquette from there).

That's great. Good to know!

Hopefully, on subsequent visits (fingers crossed), I can do that
