milwaukee music scene? (Bradley: to rent, house, landlords)

For the people well versed in the music scene, whats the music scene like here in Milwaukee?

I'm more of a "concert" guy than a "club" guy, so I'm not the one to be commenting.

My one observation is- there *seems* to be a decline in the number of Milw stops by top touring acts. Perhaps Bradley Center is charging exorbitant money. Perhaps the big venues here can't guarantee the attendance. But for whatever reason, tours seem to hit chicago, then jump right over Milw on the way to the Twin Cities.

It's not like I've kept a logbook, so I'm not sure if this is real or impression.

Off-topic: my biggest hope for the upcoming Amtrak funding increase (assuming its still on the table) is for a late-night route from Chicago to Milw (like 1-2am) for concert-going and other cultural purposes. (There is already precedent for this: the 3:15am NY-to-Boston.)

Mainly, I'm looking from the perspective of a musician that wants to do shows..

Milwaukee has an awesome music scene, I was in bands there a few years ago. In my opinion the main reason for this is that their are TONS of places to practice, since every house has a basement. I live in a city where you have to rent practice space because of the way things are built and the attitude of landlords and for where I live I thought the music scene would be awesome, not the case, it's that easy access to jamming that makes it cool. To get together with your buddies and rip out a couple of tunes without anyone calling the cops.

Times this by the fact that THERE IS A BAR ON EVERY FREAKIN CORNER!!!!!! so you can always find a place to play, add the social lubricant that is beer and before you know it, your in 4 different projects. Divide by the fact that no ones trying to get famous and everyone just having a good time and it makes for a great place to make friends and music.

God I miss Milwaukee, haven't been involved in a project that worked since I left, and I moved to a city 4 times the size.
