It's a very nice, small suburban town (with still a semi-rural feel in portions) in the outer ring of Milwaukee metro suburbs.

If you don't mind being semi-far away from the city and don't mind a smaller, more quiet suburb, then there is not a problem in the world with Sussex. Its a nice town with reasonable access to Milwaukee.

I live in Sussex, we moved here about 4 years ago. It is close to somethings, a bit further to others. We like it and here are a few things we like:
-Land is more affordable than some surrounding communites...we got way more house than we could afford in Brookfield or Pewaukee
-Schools are very good
-Property taxes are relatively low for SE WI
-My wife likes that we can get to Brookfield Square & Mayfair in about 10 & 20 minutes respectively
-Lots of great family stuff within about 10 minutes (Wilson Center for the Arts, Milwaukee Ballet classes, etc.)
-On the weekend, Lake Michigan is about 30 minutes away, at rush hour it takes longer
-Short drive to local lakes (Pewaukee Lake, etc.)
-This really only applies to us, but our neighborhood is incredible, we are friends with probably 20 different families and we have frequent get togethers
-Lots of development going on in Sussex (I am looking forward to the YMCA coming. Waukesha Family YMCA - We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities. )
-Lots of parks & lots of kids
-The corner of 164 & Silver Spring/Main has most of the necessities (Pick n Save, Walgreens, Kohls, Shopko, etc.)

If I think of more I will post again...feel free to DM me.

One thing Sussex could use more of is restaurants, but there are a few and again Brookfield & Pewaukee are very close.

Lived there for 15 years. We really liked the Hamilton School District and we felt our kids were pretty well prepared for adult life and college.

People were nice. There were some busybodies on the town board but overall the local gov't was really pretty good. Generally they left people alone, did a decent job of controlling costs, and offered some nice services that we miss.

We liked the fact that we could take walks in a "countrylike" enviroenement in a few minutes or be in downtown MKE in 20 minutes.

Town changed a lot in 15 years. Fortunalty village board slowed down the multifamily dwelling building. That had a potential to be a problem if it got out of hand.
