I grew up in PA, spent a couple years in Minneapolis, and now live in Philly.

Holiday and Super America are the closest you'll find to wawa and sheetz. But it's not the same.

It's hard to explain...it's something only people from Pennsylvania can understand. But Wawa and Sheetz are great. You're not going to find the prepared foods that you find at Sheetz and Wawa, and you're not going to find the good quality, cheap, in-house brands. Holiday and SA are basically just gas stations, although it's true that some of them are large enough inside to get some basic supplies that aren't too marked up.

But yeah, it's pretty funny. My wife is from Saint Paul, and she never understood what was so great about Sheetz and Wawa until she went to one. It's almost impossible to understand, because in reality, if you step back and look at the situation, they are not stores that are anything special. Yet somehow, they are so wonderful.

Even living in Philly, where we just have Wawa, I miss Sheetz. I want them both!

the closest I would say that I've seen is PDQ (I've seen mostly in Wis). Do they have PDQ in Mpls? They are nice, always keep them clean. But still not as nice as sheetz and wawa. I used to have my meals at Sheetz, they are as good as the other places.

There is a PDQ location not too far from me, but the local Holiday and Super America are bigger and offer more.

You're not looking hard enough for CVS, then. They've been building new stores like mad, sometimes less than a mile from each other. I foresee a lot of empty former CVS locations in 20 years or less, because there is such a thing as expanding too fast. Just look at Krispy Kreme. Where are all those donuts now?

CVS and Walgreens are interchangeable in my mind though. Rite Aid has left the area, and Snyder's, the old local standby, is all but dead and gone, despite a valiant comeback effort 5-10 years ago.

oh yea Rite Aid I forgot. They are cool, I was in Harrisburg we had a nice one down the road. PA has some cool things, not a bad place really (not my favorite though). Lancaster was so beautiful.
