Looking for families with 8-12 year old kids interested in eating and cooking healthy together! (Minneapolis: 2013)

The University of Minnesota is continuing its partnership with Minneapolis Parks and Recreation to offer a fun program this fall. HOME Plus is a family-focused research study that includes a program for parents and children (ages 8-12) that promotes eating and cooking healthy foods together as a family.

If you enroll, we will schedule a time to come to your home where parents and children complete surveys and height and weight measurements. This will occur three times during the study (over the course of 2.5 years). Families will receive a $75 Target gift card at each home visit.

Families will be randomly assigned to either the HOME Plus program group or another group that receives monthly newsletters about healthy eating. The HOME Plus program group includes monthly family sessions from September through June with periodic supportive phone calls to help families meet their healthy lifestyle goals. The fun, interactive sessions will include cooking and eating together with other families and will be held at Kenwood, Waite, or Armatage Park & Recreation Center in Minneapolis. You have the flexibility to select which location is most convenient for you. We ask that you carefully consider your family’s schedule for a once per month commitment from September 2012-June 2013 because your attendance at the sessions is very important!
