I am wondering if their are any lakes near the Metro where I could rent a small fishing boat for the day?

Seems to me we did that once at Square Lake. Bet any of the resort lakes have that as an amenity.

I checked into this place and it seems cool, but it's expensive. here are the rates:

Boat size - 7days - 4days (M-Th only)
Pier3 - $5495 - $4595
Pier2 - $4495 - $3595
Pier1 - $3495 - $2595

I suppose if you really do a lot of boating it might be worth it. It would certainly be easier than storing and trailering a boat, not to mention the maintenance and upkeep. The boats are available May 1st - Oct 15th. That's approximately 23 weekends. You reserve them online, but it doesn't sound like you're guaranteed a boat unless you reserved one, and you can only make one reservation at a time.

This is an interesting thread though. I would like to hear experiences of anyone who's reserved a boat in the metro area. It does seem like most rentals are pontoons that would be too big / too expensive for our family.

we use to rent a little fishing boat and motor at Lake Riley from a guy who'd rent them right there from his house, while he's probably long gone, I imagine the metro lakes are full of little set-ups like this that you won't necessarilty find thru web searches.

Hennepin County's Three Rivers Park District is full of places to rent canoes, kayaks and row boats

Rowboat | $4 per 30 minutes

Rental includes oars and life jackets.
Baker Park Reserve, Bryant Lake Regional Park, Cleary Lake Regional Park, Fish Lake Regional Park, French Regional Park, Hyland Lake Park Reserve, Lake Rebecca Park Reserve
