Hello Everyone!

I'm heading back up to the Cities this weekend and am trying to figure out the best way to get to the U. I checked MNDOT today to see if they've listed the closures for this next weekend, but they haven't yet, so I was curious if anyone knew about closures in the south metro this weekend. I'm mainly concerned about 35, 35W, 494, 169, & 62. We (my parents and I) would be coming from Sioux Falls and our plan is to take hwy 60 (by Worthington) to 169 to 62 to 35w (because they can't do the merge from 494 east to 35w north), but that could easily change with some construction. The other option is obviously just staying on I-90 until we hit I-35, but they (my parents) are convinced it takes drastically longer even though it doesn't. If any of you know any info on closures or roadwork that's underway, or just thoughts on which route to take, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

The 90-35 route takes less time because of the speed limits. Not sure about road closures yet but my guess is not many since it's Labor Day weekend. 35 in Burnsville is bad though. Do you have GPS? If so and you find 35 is backed up south of the metro--get off at County 46 or even County 50 and get over to Cedar Ave and up to either 35E or to 62 and go west to 35W, etc. If you go 35E you want to get on to 94 and head west to Huron Blvd. It will take you on Ayd Mill Road. Follow that all the way to the ramp under the bridge where the road stops, Turn right then turn right again on Snelling Ave. Get into the left lane and go 3 stop lights (I think it's 3) to the 94 ramp and go west to Huron. Your GPS should route you.

I've used both routes many times. It's about 20 extra miles going all Interstate, but barring any delays, it takes about the same amount of time either way. I never worry about the slight time difference myself.

There's definitely construction happening on 35 south of the cities right now though. I think it's for resurfacing. Even if they don't work through the weekend, I'd still expect half the freeway to be closed.

I'd suggest hitting the cities from 169 until 35 is done. The only things I can think of right now is them possibly tying up loose ends on the 169 bridge project over the Minnesota river (it's supposed to be fully open now), and there's a bridge project at Penn Ave over 62 right now, but as long as there aren't lane closures, which there usually aren't, it should be fine.
