We're looking to possibly move to the neighborhood by pearl park (diamond lake...?) off Portland. we have little kids, no pets.

Is the airport flight path right there?

Any comments about the neighborhood would be appreciated!

Yes, you're going to be pretty close to some planes flying pretty low. This is a great site to see exactly where the flightpaths are:

MAC Flight Tracker

The flight path for arrivals going to the south runway goes right over Diamond Lake/Pearl Park.

Otherwise, it's a very nice neighborhood, surrounded by other nice neighborhoods. If the noise is too much in that specific location, you have plenty of other options. A couple blocks can make a huge difference in the noise level.

Thanks!

Anything else about the neighborhood? I didn't mean my question to be only about the flight path demographics, noise (neighborhood noise - not planes), local eateries, foot traffic at pearl park/tennis/bball...??

This is a great neighborhood for families - close to Pearl Park, Lake Nokomis, and the Creek. The people that aren't bothered by the airplane noise usually love it and the airplane noise drives some people insane. I'd recommend spending some time in the neighborhood (take the kids to the park?) to see how you feel if you can.

I have a good friend who lives in Standish-Ericsson and my cousin lives a couple blocks from the VA — both thought airplane noise would be a problem, both got over it relatively quickly, and now both face the same problem: they live so close to the airport that friends and family are always asking to park their cars in their garages to save a few bucks.
