I think it was a priest who wrote the book but maybe I am mistaken. Anyway a priest from the northside was working the streets trying to help girls that were victims of pimps. He was well known back in the 1980s when the street pimp scene was going strong. Those were the days of Moby Dicks on Hennepin Avenue downtown etc. Anyone remember the name of the book?

I think the one you want is "Minnesota Pipeline". Al Palmquist. Seems the claims were exaggerated at the time and when a delegation went to NYC to bring back the fresh faced Scandiwhovaian girls they only found a few that refused to return.

I don't know if the claims were exaggerated but I know the new Yorkers named one of their streets the Minnesota strip because there were so many young prostitutes from Minnesota hanging out.
I also know from living in Minneapolis back in the 80s that pimps were everywhere. They controlled the streets and not even the cops messed with them(because of the liberal political system in place in Minneapolis). I remember often being in the IDS building and pimps were lined up on the second floor railing and hitting on every white girl that passed by as she was on her lucnh break. I don't see that sort of thing now but it may be that the pimp scene has gone underground and isn't so visible as it was. I get the feeling that it is still quite strong, from things I read etc.
