So I was watching Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter (2014), which has a Coen Brothers' Fargo reference and in one scene a cop tells her that Babe the blue ox statue used to be anatomically correct, until some guy shot it off with a 23 gauge.

Truth or fiction?

Which statue? There are several of them in Minnesota.

In any case, I very highly doubt that's true, seeing as a lot of these statues were built in eras when modesty was of utmost importance and roadside kitsch was meant to be family-friendly.

another cali poster. If a Minnesotan came out and said it was true, that would be something. Thus I posted in City-Data Forum > U.S. Forums > Minnesota >

Everyone else's speculation is just post number hoarding.

Anything referencing Fargo is a joke except some people do have that accent.

This Is a True Story (2003)

IMDB: In December 2001 the world's media focused on the small town of Fargo, North Dakota, where the body of Takako Konishi was found in the woods by a hunter. The media reported that she had left Japan with the misunderstanding that the Coen brother's "Fargo" really was a true story and that there was a stash of money hidden somewhere in the snow on a road by a tree. This documentary traces the background to the story and finds that the media, quick to jump on a "funny" story of foolishness, had gotten the story totally wrong.
