Yet, when I am at the Mille Lacs casino I rarely see an Indian working there.

Evidently those monthly checks $$$$$$$$$ are enough they don't want a job.
So you have this MAJOR hang up with tribe members benefiting from owning casinos, yet you patronize their business??

I don't have a " hang up".

What I object to is people portraying them as " poor them, poor them "

The casinos do give jobs to the poor whites in the area that do want to work and earn a wage.

David, Your anecdotes from a visit to the casino are not evidence. The fact is that on the ten largest Indian reservations, the poverty rate among families with children is about 50%. This compares to a national average of less than 10%. Indian reservations are very impoverished places, and your resentment over casino ownership or your willingness to accept the truth does not change that fact.

The link is about Indian reservations across the US.

This is the Minnesota forum.

Yes, the Indians on the Red Lake reservation don't benefit from a prosperous casino but the casinos at...........Shakopee , Hinckley, Onamia, Cloquet, Morton, Walker,Granite Falls .........seem to be doing quite well.

I still can't figure out why so few Indians are....working...at those casinos.
One would think if they are suffering, there would be long lines applying for every available job there.

Mainly area white folk doing the actual work.
Why is that ?

I didn't see you jumping all over the anecdotes from Wisconsin, but ok, then let's look at the poverty level at the largest reservations in Minnesota.
https://www.minnpost.com/sites/defau...nsChart640.png Poverty rates on the reservations far exceed those of the state as a whole.

While there has been a benefit to the Indian tribes from gaming, it has not eliminated poverty on reservations. No doubt your personal anecdotes will trump any actual research, but this article presents a pretty balanced look at the benefits tribes have derived from gaming. As I said early on, they're not all Mystic Lake.

So your definition of 'brining in the cash $$$$$$$$$$$$' and 'rolling in the cash $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$' is '$900 per month'?

Then a burger-flipper who makes $1200/month at McDonald's is obscenely rich from your point of view? I mean, they must be if they're raking in even more cash than those Mille Lacs band members who are living in the lap of luxury off their $900/month!

Since some Indians are wealthy, you object to people pointing out the fact that most of them are impoverished?

I see. Since some while people are benefiting you see an upside...

Look at the numbers. The actual numbers. The vast majority are very very poor. We screwed them good.

Where are your facts about "doing quite well"? And if some even are doing well, is it capitalism you're complaining about?

Here are some more facts for you to ignore:

State pledges $400,000 to reduce number of Indian children in foster care | Star Tribune
"...With the number of American Indian children in Minnesota foster care reaching “unacceptable” levels, the state pledged Thursday to spend $400,000 over the next three years to reduce those numbers.
The announcement comes after a Star Tribune report found that Minnesota has more Indian children in foster care than any other state, including those with significantly larger Indian populations. Less than 2 percent of children in Minnesota are Indian, but they make up nearly a quarter of the state’s foster care population — a disparity that is more than double the next-highest state.
The latest data shows Indian children make up about 20 percent of the state’s foster care population, the Department of Human Services said.
“This disparity in outcomes for Minnesota children is unacceptable,” DHS Commissioner Emily Johnson Piper said in a statement Thursday."

Those babies and children must no know about all that casino money they have!
